Brand Focus: NYX | My Favourite Products From NYX

Hello everyone!

A few weeks ago I started a new series on my blog where I share my favourite products from a specific makeup brand. Today's blog post is going to be dedicated to NYX, which is a brand I discovered earlier this year when they launched in Boots.

NYX Above & Beyond Full Coverage Concealer Jar:
So far the only base product I have tried from NYX is this concealer jar. I love this concealer as it is very comparable to the Benefit Boi-ing concealer. Both concealers are very thick and full coverage. I don't use this concealer under the eyes as it is on the thicker side and would crease horribly even after being set, but it's brilliant for covering blemishes and dark spots. This concealer is slightly more creamier than the Benefit concealer, and that means it blends out a lot easier than Boi-ing. You do need to keep in mind that this concealer needs to be set using a setting powder otherwise it will crease, but overall it is a really nice concealer.

NYX Eye Shadows:
I have only tried these three shadows from NYX up to now, but I definitely want to try more. I have started to create my own custom eye shadow palette so I am going to make an effort to finish it off soon. I have included swatches of the three shades that I do already own; and you can definitely see from the image just how pigmented the shades are. The copper shade (Showgirl) is especially pigmented and looks gorgeous on the eyes. I also like to use the particular shade damp so that it is very intense and opaque. The matte taupe shade (Coquette) is a brilliant cool toned transition shade, which I don't own a lot of, and blends out amazingly into the crease. The third shade (Gumdrop) is a really pretty pale pink shade with a hint of shimmer running through it. I love this shade for all over the lid and in the inner corner.

Top to bottom: Showgirl, Coquette & Gumdrop

NYX Tinted Brow Mascara:
As I have mentioned previously, I don't tend to do a lot when it comes to my eyebrows. I have tried and tested a lot of different brow gels and mascaras, but the Benefit Gimme Brow and this NYX brow gel are by far my favourites. I love how this brow mascara coats every brow hair evenly and adds just the right amount of tint to the hairs. I definitely don't need to use any other product when I use this because my brows look so full and groomed with this product alone.

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Stockholm:
When it comes to lip products I only ever wear matte products nowadays. This NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream is one of the most comfortable lip products I have ever tried, and it's matte too. Normally matte lipsticks are very drying on the lips, but you can't even feel this on the lips when you're wearing it. The formula of this lip cream is very smooth and buttery, but it does take a few applications to get an even finish. With that being said, when on the lips this lipstick looks very opaque and velvet like. The shade I own is Stockholm, Stockholm is not the usual shade I would go for (but it is still very pretty!) so I am definitely going to try a few of the other shades.

NYX Lip Lingeries:
Some of my favourite liquid lipsticks of 2017 are the Lip Lingeries. I have three shades and I have absolutely used them to death! There is something about these lipsticks that I just cannot get enough of! Like the Soft Matte Lip Cream, the formula of these lipsticks are really soft and creamy. All three of these shades apply beautifully on the lips and don't cling to dry patches. The only problem I have with these lipsticks is that the applicators are quite long which means precise application can be quite difficult, but you can avoid that issue by using a lip brush to apply the lipstick instead. I have the shades Ruffle Trim, Teddy and Beauty Mark; my favourite being Teddy. I definitely recommend these lipsticks if you have dehydrated lips but still want to rock a matte liquid lipstick:)

I hope you enjoyed this blog post, I certainly enjoyed writing it! What are your favourite NYX products?

30 Beauty Questions Tag

Hello everyone!

I wanted to write a relaxed fun blog post so I thought that I would do the '30 Beauty Questions' tag. I used to do tag posts all of the time on my blog, but this is the first one I have done in quite some time now.

1. Do you remember your first makeup product?
I wish I could remember the first makeup item I bought, but I can't! I have sat for ages trying to remember but I can't decide whether it was a foundation, blusher or mascara. I do know that it was probably something really cheap as I never used to use high end makeup products.

2. Describe your perfect mascara. Have you found one that fits your specifications?
I am quite picky when it comes to mascara because I have to find one that ticks all of the boxes. For me personally my mascara has to be lengthening, volumising and stay in place all day without smudging or wearing off. The only one that comes to mind that ticks all three of these boxes is the Benefit They're Real. This mascara is great for making your lashes look long and voluminous, and it does not move from your lashes at all; you actually have to scrub at your eyes for ages before it comes off!

3. What kind of coverage do you prefer from foundation?
This one's easy, full coverage all the way! I don't think I have ever went out in about 3 years without a foundation on that has been full coverage.

4. Favourite high end brand?
This is a really hard question and I don't think I could pick just one brand. I have been lucky enough to try quite a few high end brands and there have only been a few products which I haven't 100% liked. Some of my favourite high end brands definitely include MAC, Kat Von D, Benefit, Too Faced and Hourglass.

5. What cosmetic brands have you always wanted to try but still haven't?
There are a few brands which I am currently yet to try products from; Colorpop, Becca, Anastasia Beverly Hills and Dose of Colours.

6. Favourite drugstore brand?
As much as I love high end makeup I also love a lot of drugstore brands too. I love Makeup Revolution eye shadow palettes and Rimmel do some really great foundations.

7. Do you wear fake eyelashes?
I think I have only worn falsies on one or two occasions. To be honest, I can't really be bothered with the hassle of applying them. I much prefer to just layer on the mascara!

8. Is there any kind of makeup you can't leave the house without?
I do sometimes, although rarely, go out without a full face of makeup on. I would probably say mascara is the one thing I never leave the house without as even with no other makeup on I really think that a coat of mascara can do wonders.

9. What is your most cherished makeup product?
Probably my Hourglass Ambient Lighting Highlighter Palette. This is one of the most expensive makeup products I have ever bought and it is just so luxurious and precious that I COULD NOT bear to lose it.

10. How often do you shop for makeup? Do you like to pick up an item here and there or get lots of goodies at once?
It really depends on the situation. If I am in a makeup store I will only pick up one or two items. If I am online shopping then I like to go all out and purchase lots of items at once.

11. Do you have a 'beauty budget' or do you spend freely?
At the minute I haven't really been spending all that much as I have been saving my money. In the past I have been a bit more careless and just bought whatever I wanted, but I am definitely going to change that and start to set myself a limit on what I spend.

12. Do you utilize coupons, rewards cards and sales when you shop for makeup?
In the UK we don't really get that many coupons as they do in the US, but I do have a lot of loyalty cards. Some of the loyalty cards I have include Boots, Superdrug and House of Fraser. I do occasionally receive vouchers in the post and via email, so I do take advantage of these when the offer arises.

13. What type of product do you buy the most of?
This really varies but at the moment I have been purchasing highlighters frequently as I have been obsessed with them. If I was asked this 3 months ago, however, I would have said either foundation or eye shadow palettes.

14. Is there a brand which you absolutely can't stand?
I can't think of one from the top of my head to be honest.

15. Do you avoid certain ingredients in cosmetics like parabens or sulphates?
I probably should but I really don't pay all that much attention to ingredients in my makeup. I tend to stay clear of products which block the pores as they are known for causing breakouts, but other than that I don't.

16. Do you have a favourite place to shop for makeup?
Obviously I do like a good high end product now and again, so one of my favourite places to shop is either Debenhams or House of Fraser. If I am online shopping then I prefer Beauty Bay as they sell a lot of different brands which we can't buy in UK stores.

17. Do you like trying new skincare products or do you keep a certain routine?
Don't get me wrong, I do like to try new skincare brands and products but for the most part I try to keep the same routine as I know that those products are what work best for me.

18. Favourite bath and body brand?
Lush is what immediately came to my mind when I saw this question as a lot of my favourite bath products are from there. I have tried so many Lush products over the years and I don't think I have ever been let down.

19. If you could only buy from one brand, which brand would you choose?
I would probably choose Kat Von D as I have been loving their products recently. The Lock It Foundation and Loose Powder are two of my favourite base products, and I couldn't imagine doing my makeup without them. I also love the Shade & Light Contour Palette too as all of the shades are very wearable and easy to work with.

20. What brand do you think has the best packaging?
Aesthetically wise I think that Urban Decay are pretty strong contenders in this department. What really decided for me was their gorgeous Alice Through The Looking Glass palette that I bought when it was released. I will insert some pictures so you can see just how gorgeous the palette is.

21. Which celebrity always has great makeup?
Kim Kardashian has really great makeup. Her makeup is really glowy and just looks stunning all day every day!

22. Do you belong to any online makeup communities?
Nope.

23. Five favourite beauty gurus.
Fleur DeForce, Tati (Glam Life Guru), Manny MUA, Jeffee Star & Shaaanxo.

24. Do you like multifunctional products like lip and cheek stains?
I think dual purpose products are great for travelling as it allows you to save space in your suitcase. The Benefit Benetint and Posietint are both really nice products, for example.

25. Are you clumsy in putting on makeup?
I would like to think that I am not! I do take my time when it comes to applying my makeup, but sometimes I do make the odd mistake like getting mascara on my eye lids.

26. Do you use makeup base/primer for the eyes?
I used to always prime my eyes before doing my eye shadow and I still do if I have a ton of time to get ready and I'm really going all out with my makeup. If I'm just doing simple makeup then I just bring my foundation over my lids.

27. How many hair products do you use on a typical day?
If I'm making an effort with my hair and curling it then I use a heat protecting spray and then a little hairspray, but nothing too crazy!

28. What do you apply first, concealer or foundation?
I always apply foundation first. I like to see what my foundation covers and then apply concealer on top of the areas I'm not particularly happy with.

29. Do you ever consider taking makeup classes?
I watch so much YouTube that I probably wouldn't need too, plus YouTube is free.

30. What do you love about makeup?
There is so much that I love about makeup. Firstly, I love applying my makeup and trying out new techniques (but I hate removing it!). I also love that you can really step out of your comfort zone with makeup and try new things. Finally I love highlighting and enhancing my facial features.

I hope that you enjoyed reading this post as it was very fun for me to write! If you have done this tag then leave a link to it in the comments so I can read it:)

If I Could Design My Own Palette...

Hello everyone!

I wanted to do this blog post a little while ago but somehow I just never got round to it. I love palettes because they combine a range of different products that are all in one place, meaning they can be ideal for travelling. I have a lot of favourite products but that means I have to take lots of individual products with me on holiday. Today I am going to be sharing all of the items I would put in a palette if I could design my own.

Rimmel Stay Matte Powder:
Probably my all time favourite pressed powder is the Stay Matte, so a palette with this in would be amazing. This powder has everything that I ever look for in a powder as it is really light weight and makes my skin look really blurred and flawless. Once I set my makeup with this powder I am good to go for the rest of the day and I very rarely get shiny, unless it is really hot outside.

Benefit Hoola Bronzer:
The next product in my palette would be the Benefit Hoola Bronzer. This is such a great bronzer because it can also be used as a transition shade in the crease. This bronzer is great for my lighter skin and doesn't make me look unnaturally orange, which I can find to be a problem with a lot of bronzers.

The Balm Mary Lou Highlighter:
This highlighter is probably the highlighter I reach for the most often as it is a champagne shade, which is really wearable for everyday. The pigmentation on this highlighter is amazing as you can lightly dust the highlighter on for a more natural finish, or you can really pack it on if you want an intense highlighted look. I also sometimes use this highlighter on my eye lids as well as in the inner corner of my eyes. This, like the Hoola bronzer is such a multi task product that I just couldn't not include it!

Eye Shadows:
When it comes to my eye shadow I basically do similar, if not the same, looks all of the time. I am not one to step out my comfort zone too often so if I am wearing eye shadow it will usually be a warm toned look. On the very rare occasion I do add a little colour to my eye makeup; even then it's just a burgundy or cranberry shade. I have already mentioned a bronzer which I could use for a transition shade but I like to have options; and so the other transition shade that I would include in my palette is MAC's Saddle from the Warm Neutrals palette. Saddle is a really nice shade as it's matte and it is slightly warmer than Hoola. The next eye shadow I would include in my palette is the Kylie Cosmetics Brick eye shadow, which is from the Burgundy Palette. I like adding Brick to create depth in my eyes as it's a nice warm toned dark chocolate shade. The final eye shadow which I would include in my custom palette is from the Too Faced Sweet Peach palette. The shade I am talking about is called Luscious, and this is gorgeous as it's a very glittery shade.

Kylie Cosmetics Dolce K:
For a while now I have only been wearing cool toned dark brown lip colours, and Dolce K was one of them. My Dolce K is now pretty much empty (very sad, I know!) but I would definitely include this in my palette if it was in cream form, because you obviously can't put liquids in a palette!

Wouldn't it be so convenient if I had the majority of my face, eye and lip products all in one place?! What would you put in your palette?

Until next time,

Brand Focus: Makeup Revolution | My Favourite Products From Makeup Revolution

Hello everyone!

I am going to be starting a new series on my blog where I post dedicated blog posts on individual brands. I think this will be a great way for people to discover new brands and products. To start this series off I am going to be sharing my favourite Makeup Revolution products.

Makeup Revolution is a great drugstore brand which is sold in both Superdrug and online at TAM Beauty. I have quite a few of their palettes, and I also have a few individual products to share today as well.

Makeup Revolution Pro Fix Oil Control Fixing Spray:
I always set my makeup with a fixing spray and this one has been my go to recently. I love this as I really feel that it makes a difference in the longevity of my makeup, and it also helps to keep my makeup looking matte all day long. I think you all know by now that I like a matte finish when it comes to my makeup, so this setting spray is right up my street:)

Makeup Revolution Eye Shadow Palettes:
I own five of the Makeup Revolution eye shadow palettes and they are great. The shadows are extremely pigmented and blend out so well. My favourite palette is definitely the Flawless 3 Resurrection palette as the shades are similar to those in the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance palette, and the rose gold packaging is really pretty!

Makeup Revolution Redemption Palette Essential Day To Night

Makeup Revolution Girl Panic Salvation Palette

Makeup Revolution Flawless 3 Resurrection Palette

 Makeup Revolution Beyond Flawless Palette

Makeup Revolution Mermaids Forever Palette

Makeup Revolution Highlight Palette in Highlighter Lights:
I have had this palette for a very long time now, and I actually think that it was one of my first Makeup Revolution purchases. The shades in this palette are absolutely gorgeous and are incredibly pigmented. They also blend amazingly on the cheekbones and look beautiful when they catch the light. I think that you can buy all three of these shades separately, but I think it's great that there are three blinding highlighters in one palette. My favourite shade is definitely the centre shade which is a gorgeous light pink.

Makeup Revolution Iconic Lights & Contour Palette:
I used to mention this on my blog all of the time, and I have actually neglected this palette over the past few months. This is a great dupe for the NYX contour palette, which is noticeably more expensive, and contains 8 different shades. I love all four of the contour shades on the bottom row, and I sometimes mix them together too. The highlight (first shade on the first row) is very pretty and the banana powder is great for the under eye area and for setting concealer.

Makeup Revolution Ultra Blush Palettes:
Some of my other earlier Makeup Revolution purchases also include two of their blush palettes. From what I can remember, I believe that I bought both of these palettes at the same time. The Sugar & Spice palette is very vibrant and contains lot of pink blushers. My favourite palette, however, is the Hot Spice palette. The shades in the Hot Spice palette are a lot more wearable for everyday.

Makeup Revolution Matte Liquid Lipstick in Noble:
My final favourite product from Makeup Revolution is their matte liquid lipstick in the shade Noble. I got this lipstick in one of their lip kits and it is a gorgeous shade. I only really wear nude/brown lipsticks now, and this one is totally up my street! The formula is very runny and applies nicely onto the lips, although it does take a while to dry right down, and lasts well for the cost.

Have you tried anything from Makeup Revolution? Let me know in the comments which brand you would like me to write a post on next:)
